Access to safe water and sanitation services is a basic human right and essential to the growth of a community. Nevertheless, many people both pastoralists and urban populations lack access to clean water and depend on unsustainable means of getting clean water. Therefore, IDI will lobby for the construction of water infrastructure such as water pans, drilling of boreholes and digging of shallows to target diverge groups. Lack of or inadequate availability of water has been seen as source of conflict. Thus, addressing the lack of water will not only be pursued to save lives but also prevent water-based conflicts.
Waterborne diseases are common occurrence as a result of flooding or drinking untreated water to vulnerable families due to lack of clean water for drinking and cooking thus exposing women and children to preventable waterborne diseases that cause fatalities and health complications. Therefore, addressing these WASH challenges will be a key priority to restore the dignity of the populations exposed to risks due to poor sanitation and access to adequate and safe clean water.
